Why Am I Being Forced To Use A Concentra Treating Doctor For My Texas Work Injury?
Historically, many Texas employers have used Concentra medical clinics as the “company doctor.” They use Concentra for things like pre-employment physicals, drug tests and workplace injuries. When Texas adopted our current system that allows insurance companies to set up treating doctor networks and force injured workers to use only network doctors, Concentra was one of the clinics that was included in most of the plans because of its already existing relationships with all of the companies that were buying workers’ compensation insurance. But why is it that these networks list more Concentra locations than any other clinic in its list of doctors you can choose from as a network treating doctor? Maybe because it is owned by an insurance company. Check this out from Concentra’s own website:
“Concentra, a subsidiary of Humana, Inc., is a national health care company focused on improving America’s health, one patient at a time. Through its affiliated clinicians, the company provides occupational medicine, urgent care, physical therapy, and wellness services from more than 320 medical centers in 38 states. In addition to these locations, Concentra serves employers by providing a broad range of health services and operating more than 270 worksite medical facilities.”
Concentra is owned by Humana! It’s no wonder then that Concentra is the place that employers and insurance companies want you to go for treatment. When you are fighting disputes in your workers’ comp claim, you are fighting an insurance company. It’s not much of a fair fight when insurance companies own your treating doctor. Your treating doctor is supposed to be on your side, helping you fight your fight. How much help can you expect to get from an insurance owned doctor?
Don’t allow yourself to be at the mercy of an insurance company and its doctors. Get help finding a treating doctor that works for YOU and helps YOU and fights for YOU. Most of the time the insurance company doesn’t put these “patient advocate” doctors on the list they give you to pick from. You need to talk to someone who knows who they are in your part of town. Even if you don’t want to hire a lawyer, I’ll help you find a doctor you can rely on. Give me a call at 972-644-1111 or submit an email in the Submit A Question box to the right.
